Don't Let a Missing Tooth Hold You Back in Life

How To Clean Your Teeth When You Forgot To Bring Your Toothbrush

by Wyatt Morgan

At one point or another, you are bound to forget your toothbrush. It could be from rushing to pack your suitcase and forgetting it, or because your luggage was lost on the way to your destination. If you can't find a replacement toothbrush to get you by, here are some alternative methods for cleaning your teeth and freshening your breath.

Baking Soda

You may have noticed that there are toothpastes that advertise that they contain baking soda. It's an ingredient that works really well at dislodging plaque and whitening teeth, and it can be used to make your own makeshift toothpaste. Just mix some baking soda with a little bit of water, and mix it until it turns into a paste. It can be applied to your teeth by scrubbing with a damp cloth, or applied directly on a finger.

Kitchen Spices

There are actually some herbs in your kitchen that can help make your breath smell fresh and clean. Chew on rosemary, spearmint, or peppermint leaves for a little bit until you notice the difference. Just remember that they won't kill the bacteria inside your mouth, but it will make your breath smell nice.

Tooth & Gum Wipes

If you have a small child, you may have some tooth and gum wipes stored away somewhere. They are designed to be gentle on your child's teeth and gums to help kill bacteria, while being free of fluoride so that the cleaning materials are safe for them to swallow. Fortunately, these can also be used on adults for achieving similar results.

Chewing Gum

You may already be aware the chewing on gum is a great way to clean your teeth after a meal. The only catch is that it has to be a sugar-free gum. This is because sugar-free gum is sweetened with an ingredient called xylitol, which will prevent cavity causing bacteria from growing.

Salt & Water

If you have some salt on hand, you can use it to kill the bacteria in your mouth due to its antibacterial qualities. Simply mix 8 oz. of water with 2 tsp. of salt, and let the salt completely dissolve. Wrap a paper towel around a finger, dip it in the water, and scrub your teeth with it.

While these methods are not meant to replace your normal teeth cleaning with a brush, they can get you out of a bind when you have forgotten your toothbrush and toothpaste.
